It's Official

So it's official; we are all laid off, effective March 31, 2013.  They held meeting after meeting today with all the managers and employees.  It was a little anti-climactic; no histrionics, no agitated employees, nothing to indicate that over 100 people are losing their livelihood.

I had intended to wear something memorable for today - but in the end decided that warmth and comfort would be more important, and so instead reached for an old stand-by.
Pink Calico - Black and Mustard

I have a funny feeling I've worn this exact outfit before but couldn't find it in the posts - time to fix my labels.  So perhaps that's why I reached for it again - in times of upheaval, we cling to the tried and true.

One good thing though is that at least due to a refashion of sorts, the buttons are now on the top of the collar instead of sewn on the other side.

I also had on a sparkly t-shirt which you can barely see:

What better way to handle the layoff blues than some retail therapy?  More on that in another post.  Did you know that Canadians spend about $300 / month  on impulse purchases?  That's over $3000 / year.  If you started saving that $300 at twenty, in ten years, by age thirty you could have a sizeable downpayment on a house!

Today I wore:

t-shirt ... kenneth cole
jacket ... sasta
skirt ... kenneth cole
scarf ... fabric remnant
tights ... dollar store
shoes ... payless

    1. Thanks Far, Yes, I got the jacket because it has that triangle shape at the waist which I think is slimming.

  2. That's terrible news, 100 people... Clearly from your fashion sense you are a resourceful woman and I hope this will not be a long-lasting setback. I'm glad that you had sparkles close to your heart in this outfit. You still look great and this positive energy travels far.

    1. Hi Melanie, Yes, I'm sure it'll be alright. I'm worried about my team - I hope they all find work sooner rather than later.

  3. You look very nice in your "tried and true" outfit, and I hope that gave you an extra protective layer against all the sadness today.

Could you monetize your blog, just to get something started?

    1. Thanks! I did feel warm and cozy ... I'm not sure about the monetizing, will have to think on it. I'm not sure I'm a regular enough blogger.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about the layoffs, Narda, that is truly hard, but at least they have given you warning, and hopefully some time off to look for work. I love the jacket you're wearing - neat style and flattering on you. :)

    1. Thanks Kelly, I think the jacket is supposed to be for sports because it has those thumbholes which keep sleeves in place and hands warm.

  5. I'm very sorry to hear that, being made redundant is really horrible. I know I've been there twice! You seem to have taken it in your stride. It's interesting how you used dress to bring you a sense of comfort and protection in difficult times. At least you have a year's notice. That should give you a good length of time to find something new.

    1. Ooh, you've been through it twice! and survived. So there's hope yet. It all seems a little unreal still. I'm sure when it's nearer the time, the gravity of the situation will hit.
