Peplum It !

Today I was unsure how to wear a top.  It was not as loose and floppy as it looked on the hanger - poor visualization? or weight gain?  not sure.

My original idea was to wear it solo like this:
Pink Calico - Green Hiatus
But I had pictured it to be looser and more drapey.  Instead it was tighter and form-fitting.  That would've been fine, but we all know how I hate that long-body look - at least on myself.  So I peplumed it by adding a belt and pulling the top up a bit:

It still felt a little body-conscious, so I added a jacket:

And of course ended up with my usual work uniform ... aaargh!

It turned out okay in the end - but what this outfit did show me is that I do not have a scarf for this colour combination!  So I had to resort to black.

today i wore
green top ... hiatus
black t-shirt ... joe fresh
jacket ... jessica
grey skirt ... kenneth cole

Colour Clash

Hmm, not sure what happened today.  It looks like I'm wearing a clash of colours.

Pink Calico - Clash of Greens

I wanted to wear the green tee and hauled out a bunch of greenish clothes to go with it.  I tried various jackets and skirts and then for some reason thought "tube-waist skirt".  I don't think it really matches, but you be the judge:

You can't really tell from the photos, but the tights made me very self-conscious the whole day.  They are a blue grey instead of the usual brown grey which goes better with the khaki.

Don't you hate it when you are wearing something not quite right?  So the whole day, I imagined people were thinking "what a strange colour combination".  I'm going to label the bags that the tights are in so I know which grey tights are blue and which are brown.

For those who are wondering, the tops of the posts are made of treated wood so ideally should be exposed to the elements for a year before painting. I always thought it would be nice to have a giant chess set made of these post-tops.  This one would be the bishop of course.

Today I wore:
tee-shirt ... alia
scarf ... ?
skirt ... jessica
tights ... secret
shoes ... privo

Vet Visit

We took the doggies to the vet today for their shots; they were all excited because they thought it was walk-time - until we got into the car.  Good thing today's outfit was relatively dog-proof except for the nylons.

I've been using my bright yellow purse that I got back in May so today's outfit grew from that.
Pink Calico - Green Cardigan
Wilting in the Heat ...
I picked the skirt first because it had bits of yellow, then the dark t-shirt.  It looked a bit weird even with a belt so I threw on a short-sleeved greenish yellow cardigan overtop.

I'm not sure what I don't like about this outfit, maybe the combination of darks and lights?  Co-workers liked it though, so maybe I know nothing.

Today I wore:
dark green t-shirt ... Joe Fresh
greenish-yellow s/s cardigan ... no labels
green floral flounce skirt ... Jennifer Moore
scarf ... ???

Where is Pelican Cove?

When I was in a green-buying mood, in addition to the flippy skirt, I also got another one which is a little straighter, a little shorter but still has a bit of a ruffle.

The tag says Pelican Cove; there are lots of Pelican Coves around the world but I think this used to be a jeans brand a long time ago.   This is the skirt which every time I look at it, think: I could make something like that.  Not including the ruffle, it is just a straight tube with some elastic at the waist - I think.

I wore it with a t-shirt and looked quite long-bodied so tied a scarf around my waist to break up the dark expanse of green.

Add some accessories and we're off!  This is my Dollar Store necklace with another one from a liquidator's.  I'm very surprised that it's usually the Dollar Store items which get the compliments.

Here's a closeup of the print on the skirt - I wish they'd lined up the print a bit more.  A quality designer item would have the prints lined up I'm sure.
I thought the pebbly-ness of the scarf matched the dragon scales on the skirt.

Green Flippy Skirt

I attended a co-worker's "retirement do" today.  There were other retirees and some people who had gotten laid off earlier in the year.  I noticed that the people who are no longer working are in great shape!  One person lost 15 pounds (since February)!  The computer industry is very sedentary so it seems that not having to work allows time for other activities - something to look forward to.

It was a bit windy for my outfit, but the weather was too nice for my usual thick solid tights and fall clothing.

Pink Calico: Green Flippy Skirt

This skirt I got when I was in a green-buying phase.  It's a light floaty flippy floral skirt with a bit of a ruffle hem.

I like this light-ish shade of green - it's summery but not overly bright.  Nothing wrong with bright colours, but sometimes you just want to wear something more subdued.

So now that I've done 2 days without a scarf, I thought it would be okay to wear one again.  Not sure if there is too much going on around the neck area.

And finally Big J has been moving our patio furniture around so here is a sitdown shot:

The seat cushions were super cheap - $6 each at Jysk, so we bought 3 for the bench and another 4 for the chairs.  This type of quilted with a button cushion is normally quite expensive up here in Lotusland.  They are well padded too and have not lost their shape over 3 summers of use.

Grey, Green and Loafers

After yesterday's wildly hypnotic skirt, I wanted to project a more professional look.

Pink Calico: Grey Jacket

The grey jacket is a new item in this outfit - it is from the Sears outlet $9 and today is the first time I've worn it.  I love the Sears outlet and am not sure what clothes shopping will be like without it.  Rumours are that Sears will be replaced by either Nordstrom or Macy's, both good stores but I doubt the prices will be as low.

The jacket is a nice light weight, with room to move and hides all manner of figure flaws.  Luckily Big J noticed that I hadn't removed the tags!

Pink Calico: Grey Jacket

The blouse has quite a V-neck and I had a horrible time trying to find a scarf which would go.  Finally went with a dollar store necklace and a scarf which had some of the same colours.  Terri of Rags against the Machine was writing about a buying mood and this blouse was one of several greenish items I got last summer.

The shoes are yet another pair from Spain from several years ago.  Loafers are a lot more popular in Europe than they are here.  You see them on both men and women, especially with jeans - although the younger set are wearing converse-style canvas shoes now.

btw: I've added a "How To" page to the blog - this is just a listing of useful (methinks)  fashion-related info that I've found while reading/surfing the interwebs.  There's not too much right now, but it will surely grow.

It's Summer!

It's finally summer and warm enough to go out without a coat.  It actually felt a little springy so I wore something green.

Pink Calico - Green Outfit

Everything in today's outfit was bought at Sears.  They have an outlet store where you can get stuff at clearance prices and will often have an additional 30, 40 or 50% off.

The skirt is another tube-waist skirt - one of 3 or 4.  The tube I unrolled as it was a bit thick.  The top is nice; it has ruffles and a small, all-over print.

Pink Calico - Green Outfit

The accessories though are a bit hard to see: green necklaces on green.

Also wore another Dollar store bracelet and my Rocío bracelet from Spain.

Pink Calico - Rocio Bracelet

Rocio is one of the pilgrimages that Big J and I would like to complete one day.  The Sunshine and Siestas blog has a post for those who want to read about it.

Meanwhile in Lotusland, Big J and I walked from the train station today - about 45 mintues!
