The F-Shirt

As you know, we've been having problems with our hvac at work.  It's been way colder than usual all week.  I was going to be in the office the whole day, so wore pants again.  And layers.

I wore another pair of non-dress pants; tights are just a bit on the cool side.  And I've been wanting to wear my "F-Shirt" since I got it months ago.

I don't really like this look - as you can see it looks sloppy when it's all opened up, likely because of the combination of shirt-tail and frilly scarf.  Good thing it was too cold to remove the jacket.

It's not my usual colour combination, but the print caught my eye.  They sort of look like Fs don't they?

Although now that I see it close up, it looks like someone raising an arm up in front of the face.

The shoes too are lined and even have a fuzzy tongue, not that the top of the foot needs warmth.

The good news is that we think the heating may be fixed so tomorrow I'm going to try a skirt again.

today i wore:
f-shirt ... pantman
cardigan ... george
scarf ... dollar store
utility jacket ... denver hayes
brown pants ... nine & company

Bow Begone

When cleaning out the closet, this shirt was one which I considered giving away.  It's an Old Navy top which I bought because it was on sale.  Do you ever do that?  Buy something just because it's cheap?  This was only 1.97 so I think that's why I bought it.

Plus I like the old-looking print; it reminds me of those illustrations that botanists used to do.  I imagine someone working for Kew Gardens going out in the bush and coming back with a journal full of drawings like this.

It also had an interesting button configuration, with little loops.

But everytime I wore it, it felt weird because of the bow.  The bow is a little hard to see so here it is in all its gory detail.

So I decided to try a refashion by getting rid of the bow.  I read that it's a good idea to iron everything before you start.

Then I just lopped off the bow and started sewing - hand sewing because we're shuffling furniture and the sewing machine has been boxed in.

I didn't really know what to do next, so just sewed the two bits together, and got this:

Here's a closeup:

With the leftover bits, I had enough for a not quite long enough tie:

What d'you think?

Fire Drill

When I was putting on my shoes this morning, it looked like it might rain so I grabbed the loafers.  As it turned out this was a good choice.

We have an evacuation drill every year at our workplace and today was the day.  When the alarm sounded, I did my bit as female searcher and then we all trooped down the stairs.

Going down and around 19 flights of stairs relatively quickly always makes me dizzy.  Luckily once we're outside, there's a short period of waiting for the all-clear, and then a longer wait for the elevators to return to our desks.

It was a lazy day for getting dressed so I just grabbed a tee and matching scarf.  The tee is from Costco from a few years ago; I don't think it was on sale, so it would've been about $9, if it was on sale it would've been $6 - and strange to say: I really cannot remember.

The cute thing is it has a rather asian looking print on one side and a matching one on the back of the opposite shoulder.  I'm sure this tee used to be tighter on me, so the fibre is working.

I read on Jane's blog (the Small Fabric of My Life) that Steven Covey of 7 Habits fame passed away a few days ago.  I feel older.  His works were the basis for a weeklong course we had at work and his teachings still remain with me today years later.

Now I'm off to fix my snake purse - it caught on the drawer in the rush to get out of the office and a bit of it peeled off.  I'm hoping it can be salvaged as it has become my favourite.

Polka Dotty Butterflies

Finally a relatively hot day!  I'd actually hauled out thicker clothing the night before, the usual thick black tights, layers and such but woke up to bright sunshine so switched out to something a little cooler.

This dress is yet another Sears outlet item which must have been priced incorrectly when I bought it.  I got it quite a while ago and yet saw one in the outlet for about $5 more just recently. The print almost looks like butterflies ...

It's a bit thick looking in the photo because my slip was too long so I wore it strapless dress style.  I actually tried wearing it normally with the lace showing, but it just looked like the slip was too long - perhaps if it had been pink or orange instead of dark blue ...

The strange thing about this dress is that it has a weird tie on the side.  Really not sure what it's for - definitely not for holding the dress together.  I am considering cutting it.

I threw on a scarf too - I very rarely step outside sans scarf, it's like other women with lipstick.  I wore another dollar store necklace - you never know if it's going to be too hot and you have to remove the scarf.

I hope these dollar store jewellery items are safe - they probably are not, but at least I don't chew on them.

I also wore my blue cardigan again in case it got cold.

Does it look like a cape?

Last winter, I wore this dress with thick black tights - you would think such a minor change would scarcely be noticeable, but it looks 100% better with the white tights.
